In the third season, we are introduced to the character of Miguel Prado who is the Assistant District Attorney. When his brother is murdered after interrupting a planned kill by Dexter, he shows the full extent to which he is willing to bend the law to attain "justice".

Dexter finds and kills the man who he had originally targeted and who everyone believes killed Miguel's brother. Miguel finds him at the kill site with a bloody weapon in hand and does not report it, happy to know that the man is dead. While they become close and Miguel persuades Dexter to let him participate in a kill, once he attempts to convince Dexter to murder a woman who does not fit "the code", Dexter becomes concerned.

When Miguel kills the woman anyway, he ends up dead by Dexter's hand. Dexter views him as a warning as to what he could have become without Harry's code.

The small detail occurs in the above named episode, where the two men and their partners are eating together. The four glasses toasting are shot from above and the two glasses filled with red wine that looks like blood belong to the two men who have killed. A small cinematographic detail, but interesting nonetheless.
