10 Smartest Brooklyn Nine-Nine Characters

1. Holt

NBC

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine precinct is simply bursting with incredibly intelligent police officers, but there is no denying that Captain Raymond Holt is the smartest of the lot. Terry has even told Jake that Holt has forgotten more about being a police officer than he will ever know. Even through the discrimination that came with being a gay, black officer, Holt worked hard to achieve his dream of being a commanding officer.

His past has seen him outsmart and catch some of the most elusive criminals he ever came up against, including the likes of the Disco Strangler and the Free Style Killer. Their names may not seem too intimidating, but make no mistake that it took one hell of an officer to stop them.

Though the Captain does seem to lack some common sense when it comes to social interactions, there aren't too many gaps in his vast knowledge. He is a strong sommelier, a lover of the classics, and a stud when it comes to reading people and the game of poker.

Holt has proven time and time again that he is a fantastic detective, more than earning his position as Captain, and has also earned the title of Ultimate Detective/Genius thanks to his unmatched mind games, and meticulous planning that would put Amy Santiago to shame.
