In Season 1 of the show, Amy lost her bet with Jake that saw the man Terry describe as his best detective make more arrests than her. However, in the seven seasons since, Detective Santiago proved that she is every bit as smart as her eventual husband, if not more so, and rose to the rank of Sergeant Santiago.
Her commitment to education, organisation, and bettering herself have all gone towards her acing every test she has ever come up against, including passing the Sergeant's exam with flying colours. She has even gone so far as voluntarily attending code camp, and a handshaking seminar.
When the Halloween Heist was something that was just between Jake and Captain Holt, Amy believed in her own abilities enough to take them both on, cementing her status as the Ultimate Detective/Genius for the next year. Even her unequalled love of crossword puzzles has come in handy for her as part of the Nine-Nine.
People may mock her for being a nerd, or being slightly boring (even her own husband), but she is without a doubt one of the smartest police officers the show has ever seen.
