The Doctor lands with the warrior Leela in foggy East-End London in the 19th century, only to become embroiled in a stabbing and dragged off to the police station. It soon becomes obvious that something strange and horrible is happening in the gloomy London alleys. Creatures are taking people - and it might have something to do with a sinister magician called Weng Chiang. Another Victorian set episode - the Doctor sure does like that time period! - but full of wonderful gems, such as the warrior Leela attempting to blend in as a Victorian lady and Tom Baker's Doctor dressed in Sherlock-like deerstalker. There is also a whole host of Hammer-horror like tropes and cliches as they negotiate a creepy theatre and go up against some rather B-movie giant rats!
