10 Star Trek Characters Who MUST Return
4. Archer
Enterprise received the short straw. It was cancelled almost immediately as it had hit its stride, stopping the story dead in its track. Plans for the fifth season included a refit Enterprise that would have brought it more in line with the sixties aesthetic, along with a backstory for the Borg Queen as well. The final episode of the show, love it or hate it, does show that Archer was instrumental in the formation of the Federation.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, in being set ten years before the beginning of Kirk's adventures, offers Archer a chance to return. He could simply appear as a hologram or, as this is the future and lifespans are vastly expanded, he could appear in person. If Strange New Worlds elects to depict the launch of the USS Enterprise, which may also allow us to finally meet Captain April in live-action, then who better than Archer to see the ship off?
The early days of the Federation, already teased in Enterprise, provide ample opportunity to explore how humanity comes together to form this enormous treaty. While Enterprise suffered from attempting to be overly optimistic in the years following 9/11, the repeated cries for optimistic Trek to return these seem tailor-made for Archer to bring back that Bakula outlook.
