10 Star Trek Characters Who MUST Return

3. Geordi LaForge

Star Trek Geordi
CBS

This one seems like a no-brainer and while nothing has been confirmed, Patrick Stewart has teased the addition of a new human element in the second season of Picard, while Levar Burton has suggested he may yet make an appearance in the show. In the story, LaForge was in charge of the Romulan relief effort on Mars, though he escaped the devastation that the synthetic attack caused.

The first season of Picard dealt with the ex-Admiral's guilt and attempt to rectify the mistakes that were made by Starfleet. However, there is no discussion as yet as to where Geordi is, or what he is doing. Though Picard elected not to contact him, the situation in the quadrant has now changed. The ban on synthetic research has now been lifted and there are few people better qualified to conduct some of this research than the man who was once Data's personal mechanic.

While it seems likely that all of the Next Generation cast will return at some point over the coming seasons of Picard, Geordi's presence is more or less the most crucial, after Riker and Data. Exploring what he did after the destruction of the project he had poured so much into would be a fascinating take on life after death.
