10 Star Trek Characters You Totally Forgot Existed

4. Ensign Sonya Gomez

Star Trek
Paramount

Spilling an entire cup of hot chocolate over your commanding officer is one way to ensure you make an impression. That is if your impression lasts all of two episodes.

Arriving in the Enterprise-D’s engineering section in season two’s Q Who, Ensign Gomez looked set for a recurring role aboard the starship, backed up with a return in the following Samaritan Snare. An apparent voice of the audience, Gomez, as with most of her peers was dispatched without a word. As an assistant to La Forge, Gomez was a much more emotional character than the main cast at this time, allowing her to voice questions about the Borg and express the unseen remainder of the crew's anxieties on screen

Gomez's most memorable moment for fans is certain to be that infamous spilling incident which in turn begs the question; Who lets officers have hot drinks around Engineering workstations?

Lycia Naff picked up the part again, at least vocally, for Lower Decks season finale, First First Contact. This has seen Gomez in command of the USS Archimedes spinning out of control and endangering an inhabited planet. Luckily the USS Cerritos is on hand to help out.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
