10 Star Trek Foods We Wish Were Real

5. Gagh

Gagh: Presumably named for what non-Klingons say upon seeing it.

Klingon food has been uniformly nasty, primal, and wretched, which of course has been the point. It’s a warrior race, isn’t it? Eating Klingon food is an act of courage, a way of proving one’s fortitude. The human equivalent would be eating a fiery chili pepper, except the chili pepper wriggles and squirts blood when bitten.

Gagh, anyway, is a pile of serpent worms typically eaten live but sometimes cold. For a bit of variety, gagh is also available with feet, extra squirmy, jumping, or packed and cured in targ blood. It’s a ubiquitous and telling staple of Klingon culture, just like pain sticks and bone-breaking mating.

Though gagh has had its admirers off-world – Picard claimed to enjoy it, and there was a thriving Klingon restaurant aboard Deep Space Nine – it’s more likely to remain a Klingon delicacy for the foreseeable future and for very obvious reasons.
