10 Star Trek Villains Who Actually Won

5. Michael Eddington - Blaze Of Glory

Michael Eddington, or Jean Val-Jean, depending on the day, goes from being the somewhat stuffy Starfleet security officer, assigned to the station as Odo wasn't deemed trustworthy enough, to the Robin Hood-esque leader of the Maquis.

For a time, he lives a life that is romantic, while at the same time being quite desperate. There is a slightly forced feeling to Sisko's pursuit of him (they didn't appear to be that close while serving together) but nevertheless it makes for some excellent scenes. Sisko's poisoning of the Maquis planet is simply another notch in the 'dont f*ck with Sisko belt'.

However, Eddington's true victory comes in his final episode. The Maquis have been all but wiped out by the Dominion and the Cardassians, in what is a savage example of their brutality. The only way for Eddington to save his friends is to stage a fake missile strike, requiring Sisko to bring him exactly where he needs to go.

Thanks to this ruse, Eddington manages to save his wife, Rebecca, and several other Maquis who have been forced to hide on a small base, one that is now overcome with Jem'hadar soldiers. The only way for them to safely escape is for Eddington to remain behind, wounded as he is, and hold them off.

He may have been a massive pain in Sisko's head - but he was a romantic. He went out in a way befitting his life's work and, despite his death, Eddington won his story in the end.
