Mike Fincke and Terry Virts are two of a few Star Trek actors who've actually been in space. The two astronauts visited the set of Star Trek: Enterprise whilst they were on holiday. This was during the filming of Enterprise's controversial final episode These Are The Voyages, and both men were offered cameo roles in the episode.

They briefly appear as engineers on the Enterprise who are tasked with "freeing the deuterium filters" by Commander Tucker. Their cameos were much less controversial than those of Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis. Both men continued to have connections with Star Trek

Virts in particular was a Star Trek fan and cited the franchise as the inspiration for pursuing a career in NASA in a 2009 documentary. Virts took part in several space missions, including piloting Endeavour to the International Space Station. Fincke also travelled on the Endeavour, as a mission specialist. While neither men were actors, Fincke appeared in The Apogee Of Fear - the first sci-fi short film to be made in space!

Fincke was also awarded a Starfleet Award, and spoke to Enterprise captain Scott Bakula while he orbited the Earth.
