4. Scrubs
I love Scrubs, as Im sure most people do, but the pilot episode isnt great. It seems as if the show isnt sure what genre it slots into. It comes across as a medical drama as opposed to the fun loving comedy everyone remembers it for. In later seasons, Scrubs strikes a fine balance between drama and comedy when it needs to, and these episodes have been rightly heralded. The pilot though hasnt quite got that nailed. Zach Braffs JD isnt quite as funny because he isnt given room to breathe. I understand that its his first day at a new hospital and everything, but that doesnt necessarily mean that he has to be constructed as some pitiful mouse. Im begging for him to make me laugh. Unfortunately, its as if the writers are in the very same situation as the interns themselves: struggling to adjust to a new environment.
