It’s a testament to Supernatural that it managed to make a genie scary.

Normally represented in our culture as a character of happiness and joy, partly because of Aladdin and Disney, this was an entirely different take. Because Supernatural twists this an introduces the Djinn in its second season.

While the Djinn is very visually striking, with piercing blue eyes and head to toe tattoos, it is what the Djinn does that makes it one of the more sinister creatures in the Supernatural mythos.

The Djinn puts its victims in a dreamlike state, granting them a wish and placing them in their 'perfect' world. Meanwhile in the real world, the victim is imprisoned and drained of their blood. And this idea of not knowing what is happening to you creates an uncomfortable sense of dread that a lot of the Supernatural villains don’t have.
