8. Mary Cooper Was Placed Under Witness Protection
In order to have any chance of understanding this theory, you need to be aware that the actress who plays Sheldon's mother Mary - Laurie Metcalf - is also the actress who plays Jackie Harris on both Roseanne and its spin-off series, The Conners.
That show sees Jackie go through numerous unhealthy relationships, eventually culminating in her divorcing husband Fred, and becoming a single mother to Andy. One fan theory suggests that Jackie was witness to a crime, and as a result, was put under the witness protection programme, and moved to Texas with Andy, where they became Mary and Sheldon.
Of course, Mary would later marry George Cooper, and have a further two children. If this theory turned out to be true, it would no doubt make for an intriguing storyline on TBBT's spin-off, Young Sheldon. Rarely are such heavy topics discussed on a show of this nature.
It's worth pointing out here that other TBBT stars have also appeared in the aforementioned shows. Both Johnny Galecki and Sara Gilbert, who played one of Sheldon's arch-nemeses, Leslie Winkle, as David Healy and Darlene Conner-Healy respectively. Laurie Metcalf could very well be the glue that sees The Big Bang Theory and Roseanne/The Conners join together.
