Here is something that can stir up a friendly argument; deeper character development. There are characters that are brought into the Whoniverse, characters that the audience admire so much, but to so much dismay... they are either taken away or never mentioned again. These individuals could make good companions or even a regular ally to the Doctor whenever necessary, and yet the characters aren't developed enough to even be considered as a regular character for the show. The writers have a tendency to do this for many of their characters, and this should stop. For example, there are characters in Christmas specials who could make regular occurrences through the years of Who, like Mr Copper, and their character could be developed to the point where they have a history with the Doctor. This needs to be changed.
