3. Importance Of The Cameo
Now in the top three, here is something that does tend to annoy fans, no matter how it's executed. The cameo appearances. Firstly, why are there so few? It's a show which such a long and expanding tenure on television. Every fan of any TV or film show love a cameo appearance, it represents the old with the new and the fact that there is a history to this unique media art. Past companions making a small glance on the screen would cheer up any fan, as having more guest appearances from former Doctor Who stars is a great honour and tribute for the show. On the other hand, why are there too many appearances from monsters and villains? Yes, some may say that this is - technically - a repeat of point 9... But this point is more accurate, in the sense that it's aiming towards the overuse of the Daleks. The Daleks have been a part of the Doctor Who ethos since the origins of the show, and have become the Doctor's ultimate arch rival, encountering all incarnations of the Doctor (with the exception of the 8th). But, admittedly, they are an overused asset to the Doctor Who weaponry, brought out when there isn't a good enough idea. Adjusting the appearance of the Doctor's arch rivals to occasional rather than frequent would apply gripping suspense as to when the metallic pepper pots from space will return.
