10 Things About October Faction That Make Absolutely No Sense

1. What Happened To Fred?

The October Faction

So Fred’s dead… but his conversation with the shade of Omari in that weird limbo-plane suggested that he had a narrow window to return to life and make up for the atrocities he’d committed.

And then? We never see either of them again, because of course we don't. Our last shot of Deloris shows her standing at Fred’s grave saying goodbye, as part of a traditional 'wrapping up' montage intended to illustrate that, with the conflict resolved, life goes on: après le déluge, moi.

So are we to assume that Fred missed his window, or is it still open? Or is he somehow the whatever-it-is trying to break out from underneath that trapdoor?

If we’re being charitable, we could assume that the resolution of Fred's predicament on the other side will be a thread for season two. The problem is that, much like the other unresolved plotlines, it doesn't feel like a dangling, teasing thread to be picked up next year.

Rather, it seems far more like there are great gaps in the narrative: missing scenes that would make this make more sense. Fred and Omari’s conversation in limbo just seems to stop, as though there was an important resolution scene that got cut for time or pacing.

There are so many, many problems like this with October Faction. It feels like a show that could have been interesting, perhaps even great, if so many bizarre choices hadn't been made: casting choices, writing choices, acting choices, choices in production design, choices in the structure of the narrative itself.

None of them make any sense whatsoever...
