There are whole swathes of story missing here, while the show gives us whole swathes of story we really don’t need.

Weren’t the Allen’s being reassigned to Oslo against their will? Well, at the beginning of episode two they've suddenly on sabbatical, staying in the old hometown and doing up Dad’s horrible old mansion instead of selling it.

Why do we get so much back story on Deloris’ old buddy Basil - who then never shows up again - and none at all on Fred and Hannah’s illicit affair? Come to that, why is Fred cheating on Deloris (who he seems to be crazy about), and why is Deloris (who seems to be crazy about him) not that bothered when she finds out?

Why is Moshe's monster squad hunting Alice Harlow? Why do Gina and her deputy barely blink an eye when Moshe wolfs out at them, and then instantly align themselves with the supernatural monster that's just revealed itself to them - no hesitation, no questions asked?

Come to that, how the hell do the town sheriff and her boys make the staggering leap from wondering whether there’s more than meets the eye with the ‘FBI’ interest in their town, to stalking and shooting them in the woods?

Why do we get a full episode of Phillip’s coming out story when there’s so much of the main narrative missing? Why does Fred get instantly shot and killed in the same scene that sees Deloris captured and everyone else tranquilised?

It’s as though ten minutes has been snipped at random from each episode - which is odd, given that these are unusually short episodes for a Netflix drama, many dropping below the traditional 42 minutes of network television. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the season finale...
