10 Things Doctor Who Fans Can Thank Steven Moffat For

5. He Assembled The Best TARDIS Crew In History

Amy Pond was a good companion but the introduction of Rory Williams was a more than welcome one. What's more, he affirmed that the main cast of Doctor Who in the Moffat era were better than any the show had seen before. For a long while in the revived show, it was always the Doctor and his one companion. Sometimes they'd be joined by a third party, but it would ultimately only last an episode or two. There was never anything wrong with that because it's always refreshing when the TARDIS dynamics are shaken up. The Classic Series had its share of time travelling groups, too, but they always seemed like associates rather than close friends. Amy and Rory were different in every way. They were interesting and fully developed characters in their own right, whether they were with the Doctor or not and they could even front their own spin off without all the aliens and it would stand as a pretty decent show, which doesn't hold true for most of the Doctor's companions. There was the Doctor and Amy's sibling-like relationship, Amy and Rory's couple moments, the Doctor and Amy's fondly picking fun at Rory's expense, or just the Doctor humorously explaining things to the couple as if they were children. The three of them just bounced off each other wondrously. When it was time for them to leave the show, no wonder everyone got a little teary eyed. They weren't the Doctor's companions, they were his family. With the addition of River, it became quite literal, too.
