Regeneration stories are becoming big events. The Parting of the Ways was likely the final of them to occur during a series as the incumbent Doctor increasingly requires a fitting send off to allow audiences to say goodbye to the Time Lord they loved. As such, the End of Time was a two-part special and The Time of the Doctor was a Christmas Special and both were extra length, therefore the importance of these events are clearly evident to the BBC and the showrunners. The logical next step would be to make the story a feature film. From a monetary standpoint, this would pay off big time. Regeneration stories consistently become one of the most watched episodes of that Doctor's career. From a fan standpoint it would be pretty fantastic, too. The length of a feature film would permit a more grand story that befits the end of yet another of the Doctor's incarnations, as well as the fact that the ability to immediately re-watch the episode would be available to everyone and not just people with DVRs and access to iPlayer. The actual content of the story could be almost anything, but the most likely candidate for the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration story is the one that follows...
