10 Things We Learned From Sunderland Til I Die Season 2
9. League One May Be The New Normal
On every mug, hat, scarf and Sunderland shirt in the Stadium of Light there is a crest. On this crest between two lions, adorning a red banner are the words Consectatio Excellentiae, meaning “in pursuit of excellence”.
Although, series two certainly captures an upturn from the dismal league season that preceded it, on the pitch it seems as though Sunderland are as far away from excellence as they have been for some time. Jack Ross has since left the club, but the club have yet to see any real sign that they may be about to really take off.
Sunderland Til’ I Die certainly conveys a sense that the fans are preparing for the long haul, with the Premier League increasingly becoming a distant memory, rather than a realistic short-term reality.
Sitting just outside of the Play-off places before the Coronavirus outbreak, it seems that another season of Lincoln away and Blackpool at home is on the cards for the Black Cats faithful.
