10 Things We Learned From The Community Cast Reunion
4. ...But The Cast Have A Theory
Seconds after Harmon explains that he doesn’t know who the Ass Crack Bandit is, he chimes in with “Annie, it was Annie.”
The cast seems to agree with this theory/random answer Harmon came up with on the spot, citing the fact that Annie mentioned the Ass Crack Bandit back in Season 2’s Intro to Political Science. In the series finale, Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television, Annie also gets noticeably uncomfortable when they mention the Ass Crack Bandit, suggesting it might have been her all along. Brie herself appears to agree with this theory, rolling out of screen the second they bring up the Ass Crack Bandit.
Annie’s motivation to be the Ass Crack Bandit would likely have been to keep her and Jeff close, as the pair have a good time searching for the culprit. Perhaps she also used her quarter dropping alter ego as a political pawn, vowing to eliminate the Ass Crack Bandit in order to secure more votes in Season 2.
However, before throwing Annie under the bus, Harmon assured fans that he had no official answer to the Bandit’s identity. Given that being the Ass Crack Bandit would contrast with Annie’s straight laced, kind, and rule character, the theory should be taken with a grain of salt, even if the cast all agree with it.
