10 Things We Learned From The Star Trek Lower Decks Trailer

7. Today Is A Good Day To....Visit The Klingons

Star Trek Lower Decks Klingons
CBS

While it is unclear yet if this image represents a Starfleet delegation on Quo'nos itself, or rather if it is a Klingon outpost on another world, one thing that is clear is that we seem to be destined to see the Klingons again.

This begs the question - what are they going to look like?

Alex Kurtzman has said that, in the case of Worf for example, if he is to appear in Star Trek: Picard, he will not look like the redesigned Klingons from Discovery. Could this mean that the franchise may have to have another Klingon image explanation?

In the Original Series, the Klingons were simply humans in tan with beards. Once The Motion Picture came along (as did a budget), the Klingons were redesigned with the now-familiar forehead ridges. Deep Space Nine lampooned this in the wonderful Trials and Tribblations, while Enterprise went even further and gave a canonical explanation to this.

The redesign in Discovery, jarring at first, seemed to entirely change the Klingons to a more beastial design. Star Trek: Picard has already accepted design changes into its continuity (the hologram of the Enterprise in Starfleet Command) so it begs the question, which side will Lower Decks come down on. Personally - it doesn't really matter either way, it's just great to have more Trek!
