10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 16

5. RIP, Chantal & Hutch

Twin Peaks The Return Cooper
Showtime

The hit on Dougie Jones was not even attempted; as Dale Cooper returned to himself, his serendipitous evasion of harm resulted in the deaths of Chantal and Hutch.

They had scoped out his house in Lancelot Court, mirroring the hilariously inept Las Vegas branch of the FBI. The presence and talent of the actors probably obscured the characters, so much was expected of them. But this was easily their best scene. Chantal's, ahem, hormonal state allowed Jennifer Jason Leigh to enter full fury mode, snapping back at the most innocuous queries with the most snarled version of "yes" ever uttered: "Sure as sh*t did." She raged at her eventual and unlikely maker - 'Polish Accountant' - with a wicked "We're not even close to your f*cking driveway, a**hole. GO F*CK YOURSELF!"

Their death sequence was pure, Bonnie and Clyde-style overkill, with Falling Down overtones. The holes the Polish accountant shot into the car and the assassins in it where impossible to count. It was a sly visual joke, too; they lived their lives killing and consuming fast food; they ended theirs killed, rendered swiss burger cheese.
