8. Who Is The Boss?
The oldest unanswered plot thread from RTD2 is the identity of the Boss – a mysterious figure first mentioned by the Meep in The Star Beast. Feels like forever ago now doesn't it?
Following this, Rogue referred to a new boss who had given him lots of paperwork (it’s unclear whether this is the same character), before a more definite reference came in The Reality War, when Anita passed on greetings from the Boss to the Doctor (implying that, as well as overseeing the Meep and Rogue, they’re now in charge of the Time Hotel).
Presumably this arc was due to reach its climax in Season 3 with the Boss maybe even being the big bad of RTD2, pulling the strings right from the start. So it makes sense for it to be paid off in a big exciting festive special.
Who could it be then? Surely a returning character. Perhaps another slightly obscure classic series villain, since we know how much RTD loves bringing those back. And hey the Third Doctor did fight a supercomputer called BOSS (or more specifically, Biomorphic Organisational Systems Supervisor), so you never know.
The Boss could even be the Master, or the person that picked up the tooth he’s trapped inside. It would make sense to start connecting some of these random dots a little wouldn't it?
Whatever the case, let’s hope the reveal’s a satisfying one, and not just "the Boss was important because you thought they were important".
