In the world of Firefly, the Serenity class starship is certainly the perfect way to travel the verse, in the real world too, Firefly has also made the trip into the stars.

When Astronaut Steven Ray Swanson was assigned to work on the International Space Station he had only one show on his mind to while away the lonely hours out in the black.

As a massive fan of the Serenity crew, included in his list of personal effects for his time on the station was a copy of the series on DVD as well as the big screen outing.

Multiple viewings by Steven and his crew helped stave off the boredom that must come from being a recognised astronaut who gets to live in space for months on end.

Once returning from the STS-117 mission, Steven made the choice to give up his copies and allow them to become a permanent fixture in the annals of the International Space Station media library. Allowing the exploits of the Serenity team to continue to be enjoyed by many more for years to come.
