4. Oberyn's Death Was HUGE
At the time, Oberyn was a cool character, a rockstar of Dorne, and suffered a stunning death less than a season after entering the fold. But his death was far more than just a puddle of blood.
It sparked off a chain of events that are still rumbling to this day. Not only did it condemn Tyrion and shape his future path to link up with Daenerys (an enormous ramification in itself), but it has shaken the line of succession in King's Landing to the core.
Without Oberyn's death, there'd be no Dorne storyline in Season 5 (CELEBRATIONS). That would mean no Jaime and Bronn rescue plan, that would mean Myrcella would live. Now if Tommen dies, there's no easy-choice heir to the Throne and Westeros is once more perched on the edge of total destruction.
