10 Times Doctor Who Appeared In Other TV Shows

8. Sherlock

Considering that Sherlock was created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who showrunner between 2010 - 2017) and Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who writer between 2005 - 2017), it would almost be a crime if it didn't contain any Whoniverse connections.

Fortunately then, it does!

In the Series 4 episode The Lying Detective, some incredibly attentive viewers noticed something unusual resting on the mantelpiece pictured above. Can you spot it? Just there, right behind the magnifying glass.

This probably flew over the heads of the vast majority of viewers, but for an in-the-loop minority, this was a really cool easter egg. That "T" symbol behind the magnifying glass is actually the logo of Torchwood, an organisation in the Doctor Who world that protects the Earth from alien threats.

There's many a fan theory that Sherlock and Doctor Who exist within the same universe (largely stemming from Moffat's involvement in both shows), and this only added more fuel to that fire.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
