The 2017 reboot of DuckTales was something of a Doctor Who reunion. Not only did David Tennant voice main character Scrooge McDuck, but Catherine Tate and Michelle Gomez have also lent their pipes to the show.

What's more, showrunner Francisco Angones is a noted Whovian, and on top of bringing those Doctor Who stars over to DuckTales, he also included a more sneaky reference to the sci-fi juggernaut in the form of a time-travelling grandfather clock.

In the short episode Meet Scrooge, Louie Duck notices said grandfather clock and starts fiddling with its arms, unaware that it's a time machine. This sends Scrooge through various points in history, as he desperately tries to get the young lad to stop.

Though casual viewers probably weren't aware of the Doctor Who connection here (aside from the obvious time travel element), seasoned Who fans will recall that the Master once used a TARDIS disguised as a grandfather clock, which - considering Angones' love of Doctor Who - the DuckTales clock is surely a reference to.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
