10 Times Doctor Who Became The Weirdest Drama On TV

9. Terror Of The Autons

In some ways Jon Pertwee was the strangest of the Doctors. A straightforward action type, yet also a wearer of capes and man of a thousand faces, he combined the dual nature of the unearthly scientist perfectly. His era showcased some classic space oddities between the dust ups and explosions, and nothing exemplified this more than Terror Of The Autons. An alien menace that can control plastic is frankly pretty bizarre. But the multitude of macabre ways Roger Delgado's Master found to implement its reign of terror was creative yet cuckoo. A doll that came to life when the heating got put on for example. And not just your typical dolly - this one resembled Matt Lucas impersonating the Gruffalo! The suffocating daffodils were fiendishly memorable, and the heroic Gallifreyan's nemesis did his usual trick of shrinking an opponent to death - on that occasion sticking him in his own lunchbox. Though for absolute weirdness it has to be the scene where human obstacle McDermott is murdered by an inflatable chair. Nothing takes the weight off your feet quicker than an abrupt suffocation!
