10 Times Larry David Went Too Far On Curb Your Enthusiasm

7. Disrespecting The Dead #1

Marty Funkhouser is one of Larry’s very best foils - he’s incredibly quick to anger, and usually has good reason to be upset with Larry. His run-ins with LD tend to see him coming out on the losing end, often during a personal crisis or tragedy.

Marty loses his father in “The 5 Wood”, and Larry turns up at the funeral home to pay his respects. He is aggrieved to discover that Funkhouser’s dad has been laid to rest in his casket with Larry’s prized titular golf club, presumably as a result of Larry’s ongoing animosity with a caddy at the course they attend.

As ever, LD goes straight to the most high risk strategy imaginable - he pesters Jeff into allowing him to trade the irreplaceable club in the coffin with one of Jeff’s more modern woods. He makes the trade, and, because in the world of Curb everyone is as petty and observant as Larry, he is quickly busted.

That he makes the switch while standing over the deceased eating raisins and cashews is all the more insulting to his bereaved pal, though Larry did have a point this time. He just went about things in a questionable fashion.
