Seasons 1-3 of Netflix’s The Crown made it trendy to be interested in the royals again. Claire Foy was a huge breakout star, winning both a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. But it was season 4 and the introduction of Prince Charles and Princess Diana that managed to make this list.

Princess Diana, her life, her relationship and her death has been a talking point for a very long time for sure. The Crown merely… amplified interest. But what Netflix never fails to do is bring things to a new audience, we see it time and time again with them as they continue to flex their entertainment providing muscles. But this year, due to the popularity of The Crown, a new found appreciation was given to Princess Diana: she was a style icon.

A new, younger generation of girls are now looking to Diana for fashion inspiration, and because of this these young girls are starting to see her for the feminist she is and are going online to learn everything they can about the deceased former royal.

And perhaps we can thank The Crowns’ costume designer Amy Roberts for Diana’s trends trending again, but almost all the costumes were inspired by real outfits worn by the real woman, so who really is to blame, or, well, praise?
