10 Times The Simpsons Really Did It

9. Parodying A Stephen King Property

We're going back to Family Guy for this one: the Seth MacFarlane show did an episode called "Three Kings" in 2009 that parodied three classic Stephen King stories: The Body (which most people know for its film adaptation, the classic Stand By Me), Misery, and The Shawshank Redemption. It was a bit of a hit and miss episode (the Stand By Me spoof was the highlight, or maybe The Shawshank Redemption, while the Misery segment just didn't work), but mainly, it made us remember another Stephen King parody: The Simpsons' spoof of The Shining in Treehouse of Horror V. "The Shinning" (Bart: "don't you mean the Shining?" Groundskeeper Willie: "shh, do you want to get sued?!") is one of the true classic Treehouse of Horror segments, often quoted (especially "no TV and no beer make Homer something something"), and fondly remembered. It's not that the Family Guy episode was bad - it's just that The Simpsons take on the Shining remains the best King spoof around.
