"It's been done!" The Simpsons poked fun at this on their own, in the episode "The Fool Monty" - in which Mr. Burns threatens to put the town of Springfield under a giant dome, like the plot of the Stephen King novel by the same name - only to be told that it had already been done! It was, of course, the plot of The Simpsons Movie. Stephen King's novel Under the Dome (which has a television series of its own based on it) was released in 2009, and like Springfield, the residents of Chester's Mills wind up trapped under a giant dome, in King's case more of a forcefield. To be fair to King - who has had many of his own works copied over the years, to the point you could say "King did it!" - he began writing the novel decades before its eventual release, and put it aside for many years prior to picking it up again and completing it. Still, we're giving this to The Simpsons as they beat him to the release.
