10 Times Star Trek Actors Got Arrested

Star Trek fans will need little introduction to arguably the most badass captain of them all, Benjamin Sisko. Avery Brooks starred for seven seasons as Sisko, leading his crew aboard Deep Space Nine against the Cardassians, the Klingons and the Dominion. He has appeared in several documentaries on his time on the show, though he declined to take part in the anniversary documentary, What We Left Behind.

In January 2012, Brooks was reported to the police after witnesses claimed that he had been driving erratically. He was pulled over and given a sobriety test, which he failed, and was charged with a DUI.

While the outcome of this charge was not revealed, Brooks had caused raised eyebrows by his appearance in William Shatner’s series The Captains. In it, he spoke to the actor about his influences and musical styles, rarely sticking to any one subject for long. Other actors on the set of Deep Space Nine cited his behaviour as intense, with Terry Farrell going so far as to ask him to tone it down around her.

Despite both these legal troubles and reports of intensity, there are prevailing rumours that Sisko may return to Star Trek sooner rather than later. In December 2020, Cirroc Lofton, who played Jake Sisko on the show, suggested that Brooks’ lack of roles in recent years was not by choice but rather by lack of representation, inspiring a #WeWantAvery trend on social media.
