10 Times Star Trek Predicted The Future

3. Eco-Terrorism

Star Trek Colonel Greene
CBS

In 1969, the Star Trek episode The Savage Curtain introduced the character of Colonel Philip Green. Though not much was entirely explained about him on-screen, he was referred to as one of the worst humans who had ever lived.

His role was expanded in Enterprise, as his crimes were listed in the historical document in In A Mirror, Darkly, and he appeared on-screen as a taped declaration in Demons.

Green's legacy would be for advocating and executing eco-terrorism in the pursuit of his goals.

Eco-terrorism is something that became more and more popular from the '70s onward. Groups like Earth Liberation Front, Animal Liberation Front, PETA and Greenpeace have all experimented with various tactics. It is important to remember that some engage in activities that would align more with civil disobedience rather than terrorism.

However, the FBI reported in 2008 that eco-terrorism activities had reached almost 2000 incidents, with $110million worth of damage since 1979. Other sources list the increase in eco-terrorist activities in the late '10s and earlier - including property damage, along with violent harm toward employees of various businesses.
