10 Times The Doctor Wasn't Very 'Doctory'

6. Earthshock - Ignoring Adric

Now, with this occasion, it isn’t exactly the Fifth Doctor ignoring Adric that is the not very ‘Doctory’ moment, but the result of this. Throughout the show, the Doctor is often shown not listening to his Companions, such as in the Beast Below, but in the end, this always has a harmless result. Not with Adric…

Adric, at the time, was the Doctor’s longest serving companion of the current team, but at the start of the episode this is seemingly coming to a close with Adric wishing to return home to E-Space.

By the end of the serial, Adric and the Doctor are split up, and just as Adric is about to escape the Cybermen with the crew of the cargo ship in an escape pod, he goes back in order to try and stop the Cybermen’s plot, resulting in his death.

From the start of the episode, Adric is trying to get the Doctor to take him home, however, the Doctor simply brushes off the idea and refuses to take him back to E-Space. This leads to Adric being killed in the same story, as he tries to prove his ability.

If the Doctor had accepted his friend’s decision, Adric wouldn’t have died stopping the Cybermen.
