10 TV Backstories Revealed In Opening Credits
4. The Incredible Hulk
When it came time to adapt the Incredible Hulk to television, some licenses were made with the characters, so fans of the comics may not have known the backstory, as it was different. That wouldn't be a problem, thanks to the opening credits, which spelled out the whole backstory of the show.
The narration was provided by Ted Cassidy, who opened every episode with the following:
Dr. David Banner—physician, scientist...searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have. Then an accidental overdose of gamma radiation alters his body chemistry. And now, when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs. The creature is driven by rage and pursued by an investigative reporter.[Banner:] "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. David Banner is believed to be dead. And he must let the world think that he is dead until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him.
As he explains everything to the viewer, a montage of scenes show the fateful experiment that dosed Dr. Banner with gamma radiation, turning him into the Incredible Hulk.
The best part and one of the most enduring quotes related to the hulk explains that you really don't want to make him angry. It concludes with an explanation of why he's on the run, and what he's trying to do.
