10 TV Characters That Didn't Deserve The Hate

3. Lisa Kimmel - Six Feet Under

January Jones Mad Men
HBO

Six Feet Under's second season introduced Lisa Kimmel (Lili Taylor), Nate's (Peter Krause) old friend who becomes pregnant after they sleep together, and later gives birth to their daughter Maya.

Lisa is then murdered at the end of season three, and for many fans their reaction was simply "good."

Lisa is by far the most divisive character among the show's main cast, with many dismissing her as an excessively needy, insecure, high-maintenance hippie.

But let's rewind a little and consider the facts: even accepting that Lisa is far more into Nate than he is into her, her paranoia over Nate still being in love with his ex Brenda (Rachel Griffiths) was basically entirely justified given that, you know, it was demonstrably true.

Sure, Lisa is at times a deeply difficult person, but is she really worthy of more derision than any of the show's flawed gallery of main characters? Nate isn't exactly a saint - far from it, in fact - and yet seems to get far more leeway from the fanbase.

Some food for thought: Lisa brings out the hate in so many people because she holds up a mirror to the most anxious and insecure parts of ourselves that we don't want to think about. Boom.
