4. Gwen Grandy - The Mindy Project
Often, there is a big difference between season 1 of a TV show and the rest of the seasons; we see it time and time again. Season 1 of any series can be likened to a freshman in high school: struggling to find out who they are and desperate to fit in.
A good example of this would be Community, whose first year was a shadow of its later self.
The same thing could be said for The Mindy Project. The first season saw Mindy living her life at work and outside the office. You really got to know her, and got to know about her life and background, making her a well rounded and relatable character.
But after season 1, the comedy became less about Mindy's life and more about her work as an OB/GYN, which meant that a crucial character was completely cut from the show. When Mindy moved to the city, she did so with her friend Gwen Grandy. Gwen was a down-to-earth mother, who was usually there to give Mindy pieces of wisdom and bring her back down to earth.
Mindy definitely needed that type of grounding, but alas, the show decided to go in a different direction and Gwen abruptly disappeared from the show, never to be seen again.
