Frank Underwood could have walked right out of the pages of a Song of Ice and Fire, for his intelligence, ruthlessness and complete lack of empathy for others are exactly what one needs to become King of Westeros. Pulling the strings from behind the scenes, without anyone suspecting him, Frank has the patient calculating mind and killer instinct that would make him the perfect player in the game of thrones. We've said before that Kings Landing is no place for heroes. Rules, morals, ethics, they all go out the window when the Iron Throne is at stake. Frank would absolutely annihilate any and all opposition to his grand plan. If King Robert Baratheon had asked Frank Underwood to be Hand of the King instead of Eddard Stark, we would have had a very different program and before the end of the first season Francis would already have taken his place on the Iron Throne.
