10 TV Characters Viewers Completely Changed Their Mind About

4. William 'Spike' Pratt - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Fan favuorite William "Spike" Pratt was introduced to audiences as a widely-feared and brutal killer. His nickname was derived from his favorite torture weapon of choice, the railroad spike. He had killed two previous slayers before arriving in Sunnydale. In fact, the only vampire more feared that Spike was Angelus, so needless to say, a redemptive arc for Pratt seemed unlikely. But while Spike certainly accumulated an impressive body count during the early years of the show, his status over seven seasons changed completely. Beginning as Sunnydale's resident bad boy, by the series finale he had transformed into a self-sacrificing servant to the cause, earning kudos and shedloads of love from the audience. In fact, viewers later discovered that Pratt's other nickname "William the Bloody" came not from his merciless nature, but was in fact a derisive commentary on his "bloody awful" poetry. It was an important lesson to fans of the show. Disregard your parents' advice, because bad boys can change, and all it takes is true love*. *Note: That is definitely not all it takes.
