10 TV Moments We Waited Years To See (That Didn't Live Up To Expectations)
3. Tony Returns From The Dead - 24
Mid-way through 24's fifth season, fan favourite soul patch-wearing agent Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) met his shocking demise, being fatally injected by the villainous Christopher Henderson (Peter Weller).
Though Tony's body was shown being removed in the next episode, fans were immediately suspicious that, with Tony's body clearly kept in tact, he might one day resurface in a ridiculous fashion typically befitting the show.
Lo and behold in the season seven premiere, almost three years after Tony "died," it was revealed that not only was he alive, but he was now one of the bad guys.
It was certainly a shocking revelation, if one ultimately undermined by Tony's flip-flopping allegiance over the course of the season: Tony vaults from bad to good to bad and finally good(ish) again, by which point viewers had largely stopped caring about which side he was on.
As neat as the prospect of Tony facing off against Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) was, the writers tried to be a little too clever for their own good here, taking an already credibility-stretching storyline and turning it into sheer self-parody.
