10 TV Moments We Waited Years To See (That Didn't Live Up To Expectations)

4. Niles & Daphne Get Together - Frasier

The "will they, won't they?" romance is one of the most commonplace sitcom tropes, and as so many shows have learned to their peril, removing that sexual tension by resolving the romantic arc can leave a gaping hole in its wake.

Case in point, we have Frasier, which is without question one of the smartest and best-written sitcoms of all time.

It was defined by many things, perhaps best of all Niles' (David Hyde Pierce) seemingly hopeless pursuit of his father's live-in housekeeper Daphne (Jane Leeves).

This dynamic remained in flux for seven entire seasons, but in the season seven finale, the writers finally committed to the two getting together.

The moment in of itself was celebrated by fans, yet it became immediately clear from season eight onwards that the writers had little idea how to balance this new dynamic with the rest of the show.

Various silly subplots were introduced to try and spice up Niles and Daphne's oddly plain relationship, and by the time they finally tied the knot, they had fully settled into a thoroughly repetitive holding pattern.

It ultimately speaks more to the show's declining writing quality in its later seasons, but even so, it's proof perfect that giving fans what they want a little too soon can backfire spectacularly.
