10 TV Shows To Fill That Game Of Thrones Shaped Void
4. Band Of Brothers
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' WW2 epic is still just as stunning as it was when it was released fourteen years ago. Featuring arguably the greatest cast of any TV show, Damian Lewis, Michael Fassbender, Donnie Whalberg, Simon Pegg and even David Schwimmer all impress in this huge budget WW2 epic. While the production values and cast members may rival that of many major films, the most impressive aspect of Band of Brothers is that it manages to turn historical moments like D-Day and Easy Company's battles across Europe into a collection of touching individual stories. This focus on the soldiers' journeys portrays arguably one of the most personal accounts of war seen on the big or small screen, and helps you get inside the heads of the soliders of Easy Company as they travel from campaign to campaign. The start of each episode features a talk by real life WW2 vets and members of Easy Company, and helps to drive home the reality and horrors behind the entertaining drama you're watching. While there have been many great World War Two films, the series format means that Band Of Brothers makes you really feel like a part of each soldier's journey, and arguably helps you to better understand their experiences than a film ever could. Touching, hugely ambitious, amazingly shot, expertly acted and subtly educational - Band Of Brothers is a unique and thoroughly enjoyable piece of television that can't be recommended enough.
