3. The Corruption Of Cedric Daniels - The Wire

Oz Buffy
HBO

Cedric Daniels, a lieutenant in the Baltimore Police Department's Narcotics Unit, was The Wire's most complex and enigmatic character, played in a career-best performance by the late, great Lance Reddick.

Though his development was often one of the HBO hit's greatest joys -- his leadership of the Narcotics Unit, his career growth from cop to defence lawyer -- one part of his story was never given the attention it deserved.

Investigated by the FBI for some kind of corruption before the start of the series, Daniels' apparently scandalous past in the BPD was never brought to the spotlight in great detail, despite the extra intensity and complexity it would have brought to his story and Reddick's steely performance.

It's not a colossal loss, considering how great The Wire was throughout its run, but even the greats have their flaws, and Daniels' backstory would have made an otherwise perfect show that much better.
