3. Joey Chooses Dawson - Dawson's Creek
The Ending: Poor old Jen succumbs to a fatal heart condition and dies. Later, it's revealed that Joey Potter actually chose Pacey, whilst Dawson - successful and living in L.A. - finds out that Steven Spielberg is interested in working with him.
The Alternative Ending: Aw, what could have been, huh? That's to say, the original ending for the show would have seen Joey ending up with Dawson, the one person a lot of fans were convinced to be her soul mate. Kevin Williamson, the creator of the show, thought this too, but then - one day - he suddenly changed his mind. In his own words, he explains:
"Joey chooses Pacey because her childish love for Dawson has given way to her grown-up love for Pacey but Dawson still gets what he wants. Dawson gets what [he wanted when we] started the show, he gets to work with Spielberg. Dawson’s eternal wish, as a character, was delivered so Dawson found his happiness."
Nice as that is, a lot of people were pretty p*ssed off when they found out that Joey had gone with Pacey. And given that the show seemed to be heading towards Team Dawson the entire time, it makes you wonder whether or not - in retrospect - Joey actually picked the right man.
