10 TV Shows That Deserve Feature Films
8. The Sopranos
The Premise: New Jersey mobster Tony Soprano must balance his family life and the responsibilities of his life of crime in HBO's breakthrough crime drama. The show ran for six seasons (with the final season being split into two parts) before coming to an end in 2007 with one of the most groan-inducing finales ever.
Why It Deserves The Feature Film Treatment: No, this won't ever happen, obviously. The death of James Gandolfini sealed the fate of The Sopranos better than any open ending/black out during the series finale ever could.
However, not going to happen doesn't mean that The Sopranos didn't deserve the big screen treatment. The show that made HBO relevant again more than earned a shot at the big screen. It practically begged for it - after all, it was a modern day Goodfellas or Godfather, and it certainly had the critical acclaim and fan base.
Of course, now, we'll never know. But at its height, or sometime after the finale, The Sopranos could easily have made the jump to theatres. Just picture sitting in a cinema, and hearing the theme song's opening lines - "Woke up this morning, got yourself a gun" - that would have been absolutely killer.
Oh, what could have been.
