10 TV Shows That Ruined Other TV Shows
5. Andor RUINED Every Other Star Wars Show
The Expanse wasn't the only sci-fi show to wreak havoc on its like-minded genre brethren. Though it wasn't the most-watched or vocally celebrated Star Wars show on social media, Andor was by far the most critically acclaimed, and with damn good reason.
From Tony Gilroy's nimble depiction of fascism to the show's use of actual sets - as opposed to restrictive "StageCraft" popularised by Disney in recent years - and the outstanding performances of the cast, Andor was a much-needed reminder that there's still room for storytelling in Star Wars that isn't breathlessly reliant on nostalgia.
I's not merely a "pretty good" TV show - it's easily one of the dramatically strongest narratives in the entirety of Star Wars, standing tall with the first two films.
And so, sandwiched between mediocre shows like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, and the latter seasons of The Mandalorian, how couldn't Andor seem leagues ahead?
Even The Mandalorian, which certainly ranks among the better of the Disney+ Star Wars shows, feels shallow and safe compared to Andor, which takes dramatic risks and doesn't merely lean back on the franchise's inestimable legacy.
There's absolutely room for silliness in Star Wars, but Andor proved just how seriously the series can take itself and in turn heighten viewer investment.
And above all else, it was made with real care, which has felt so lacking in so much Star Wars media over the last five or so years.
