10 TV Shows That Should Have Quit When They Were Ahead

The Simpsons is kind of in a weird spot right now. It still provides pretty watchable television and is good for a few laughs, which is all you expect most cartoons to do.

The Simpsons though is not most cartoons. During its Golden Era, it had a genuine claim of being the greatest tv show of all time. Now though, if you take all 30 seasons into account, recent subpar offerings would disqualify it.

For what it’s worth, the show has recovered slightly from its mid-20s dip, but it’s still held to an impossibly high standard it could never hope to attain, even with the best modern episodes; Barthood, Halloween Of Horror, and Brick Like Me.

Would it be better to have gone out at the top, even though it would have meant 15 to 20 years worth of episodes disappearing?

While it definitely retains some fans and audience pull, The Simpsons has massively overstayed its welcome with the general public. The Simpsons Movie could have been a good place to wrap up, as the show seemed to have plateaued around that point anyway.

Family Guy could probably share this spot with The Simpsons too, although it was arguably less of a classic than The Simpsons ever was, hasn’t been on as long and has never paid as much attention to plot.
