How exactly does a show following the struggles of a small band of Zombie apocalypse survivors, in anyway, fit into a Doctor Who shaped void? Fair question. One of the appeals of Doctor Who is its scares and chills. Its a horror series for children that sometimes manages to terrify its adult fans as well. With The Walking Dead, grownups can relive those nail-chewing moments. This is not family viewing so dont sit your four-year-old on your lap to watch it, not unless you want a traumatised child or to raise a serial killer. Another similarity between The Walking Dead and Doctor Who is its lively online fan community. One favourite debate is over the sexuality of Daryl, with passionate advocates on both sides. The creator of the series also had to recently deny another fan theory that had gathered momentum, namely that the lead character Rick was in a coma and dreaming the whole series. Said showrunner then followed up by joking that Rick was actually crazy and the show was documenting his delusions. Showrunners never lie, eh Mr Moffat? So The Walking Dead gives you grown up scares and an online fan community to throw yourself into. In short, if you're after a replacement for family viewing with a few giggles along the way, look elsewhere.

Stephen's book 'Hiding', about a boy who meets a goblin in a local wood, is available to download from the usual places. Think of it as a scavenger hunt.
